The problem
Six apps. Five logins. One exhausted student.
Grubhub. ParkMobile. Canvas. Navigate 360. A web events calendar. A separate financial aid website. All disconnected. PantherConnect replaces them all with one unified experience.
Six disconnected apps
Students juggle six platforms with different logins and zero connection between them just to handle a normal campus day.
No real-time safety
No one-tap GPS to PVAMU PD. No silent check-in for students walking alone at night. No peer support after hours.
Dead-end gate arrivals
Visitors and students drive to a closed gate with zero warning. No live status, no redirect, just frustration and wasted time.
Navigate 360 is ignored
The features exist but are buried in a confusing interface. Students barely open it. Advisor booking feels harder than it should.
Events nobody sees
The PVAMU events calendar is not mobile-friendly. No filters. No org personalization. Great events get buried or missed entirely.
Support hard to reach
Students in crisis navigate multiple websites to find counseling, food pantry, or emergency aid. The friction stops them from asking.
Student personalization
Three questions. A completely customized experience.
Before a student sees anything else, PantherConnect asks three quick questions. The answers personalize their home screen, their safety settings, and their events feed forever. Click through the questions on the phone.
Welcome to PantherConnect
PVAMU's unified campus app
Who are you?
This personalizes your home screen, events feed, and resources.
Where do you live?
We'll show shuttle times, study pods, and safety zones closest to you.
Turn on Panther Watch?
Silently shares your GPS with PVAMU PD when you're walking alone. Stops automatically when you arrive. No officer alert unless something is truly wrong.
Your PantherConnect is ready.

Why personalization matters

A freshman walking to class for the first time needs different information than a returning senior. A student in University View needs a different shuttle ETA than one living off-campus. PantherConnect knows the difference because it asks — once — and never forgets.

Question 1: Who are you?
Freshman → sees orientation events, first-year resources, and a welcome message. Returning → sees their orgs, continuing class schedule, and senior capstone alerts when relevant. Graduate → sees grad student events, thesis resources, department seminars. Transfer → sees transfer-specific orientation and academic mapping tools.
Question 2: Where do you live?
The Panther Pulse on the home screen shows the shuttle ETA nearest to their dorm. Safe zone and officer location data on the Safety screen is sorted by distance from where they actually live. Yard Eats shows posts closest to their building first.
Question 3: Turn on Panther Watch?
If yes, the "You good?" button is always pinned to the top of the home screen and the Safety screen shows their watch is ready to activate. If they say maybe later, the button is still there — they are just not prompted to set up emergency contacts immediately.
What never changes regardless of answers
Every student sees the same safety features, the same "You good?" support system, the same Yard Eats feed, and the same academic hub. Personalization changes the ordering and the emphasis — not what is available. No student is ever a second-class user of this app.
Five communities — one app
Every person on campus has their own interface
PantherConnect is not one-size-fits-all. Each user type sees a completely different experience. Tap a tab and interact with the live phone mockup — every button does something real.

Faculty — teaching tools, not a separate app

Tap the demo button to see geo-fenced attendance activate. Faculty have a completely separate interface focused on managing their classes, not the same view as students.

Geo-fenced attendance — professor controls everything
Professor taps "Start attendance" and a 150-foot GPS radius activates around the classroom. Students physically inside get a check-in prompt. Students outside — at home, in their car, anywhere off-campus — are blocked from checking in. The professor ends the session. Results save to the roster automatically. Manual override is available for older phones with poor indoor GPS.
Grade check-in aggregate — percentages only, never names
Faculty see what percentage of their class marked Good, Okay, or Struggling. Never which student said what. When 15% mark Struggling at week 14, that is an early signal to add office hours, slow the pace, or provide extra resources before the grade drops.
Student office hour bookings — with topic pre-selected
Students book office hours through the class card in their schedule. Faculty see upcoming bookings and what topic each student selected before the meeting. No more starting from zero — the conversation begins already focused.
Canvas + syllabus vault on every class card
Canvas is deep-linked from every class card. Faculty upload the syllabus once — students find it instantly without hunting through Canvas folders or old emails. This one change reduces "where is the syllabus" emails to near zero.

Police — gate control that eliminates dead ends

Toggle any of the four gates above and watch what happens. Toggle any gate and the officer's phone fires a notification to every student and visitor with the app — they see it before they arrive at a dead end. Try the AI dispatcher and the voice report too.

The dead-end problem — solved
Right now, a family drives 45 minutes to PVAMU for a football game and arrives at the Southeast Gate — closed. No warning. No redirect. They sit at a locked barrier, confused and frustrated, while someone tries to figure out which gate to use. This is a real problem that happens every game day, every event, every time a gate gets closed for maintenance without notice.
With PantherConnect — here is what happens instead:
Officer closes Southeast Gate on their phone. One tap.
Every student and visitor near that gate gets an instant push: "Southeast Gate closed — use Main Entrance (0.4 mi) or North Gate (0.8 mi)."
Visitors who haven't left yet see the gate marked closed before they even start driving.
No dead ends. No confusion. No frustrated phone calls to the department.
AI voice dispatcher — one command, multiple actions
"Activate game day protocol" simultaneously sets gates to inbound-only, pushes visitor parking alerts, switches shuttle to game-day frequency, repositions officer map pins, and logs everything — from one spoken phrase. Officers stay focused on the situation, not the screen.
Voice incident reports — 38 seconds total
Officer speaks for 30 seconds. AI transcribes, structures the narrative, auto-fills GPS, badge number, date, time, and incident number. Complete report goes to supervisor. From 20+ minutes of field paperwork to 38 seconds.
Command dashboard — chief level
Chief sees all incident reports, AI pattern analysis ("40% of altercations are Friday nights at MSC lot"), officer activity, and a heat map. Ask the database in plain English. Shift handoff briefing auto-generates at clock-in.

Campus staff — the connective tissue

Student Affairs, Dining, Housing, Facilities — each gets tools specific to their role. Staff are what make the app feel alive for students. Tap "Update food pantry hours" on the phone to see how it works.

Event calendar — two pitch options
Option A: Auto-pull from pvamu.edu via RSS — zero staff work. Option B: Student Affairs staff post directly via simple form. Option B gives richer events and more control. Recommended: Student Affairs owns the calendar, they post to it directly.
Food pantry hours → feeds You good? instantly
When staff tap "Open now," that data instantly updates the "I need food" tile in every student's You good? screen. A student at midnight sees whether the pantry is open, what is available, and exactly where to go. The friction between needing food and getting it drops to near zero.
Org event approval queue — one tap per event
When org leaders submit campus-wide events, they queue for Student Affairs approval before going live to all students. Staff see all pending events, approve in one tap. No email chains, no back-and-forth — just a clean workflow that keeps the events feed trustworthy.
Campus announcements — targeted pushes
Any authorized staff member pushes an announcement to all students, all faculty, a specific dorm, or a targeted group. Weather delay, dining change, emergency closure — the right people hear it in seconds without checking email or the PVAMU website.

Visitors — no dead ends, no frustration

Gate status updates the moment an officer closes a gate. Visitors see it before they arrive. No login needed, no app account required.

Live gate status — see it before you leave home
All four gates show open or closed in real time. On game day, visitor parking and shuttle info updates automatically. Visitors never pull up to a locked gate again.
Visitor parking — one tap to ParkMobile
ParkMobile opens to the right PVAMU zone. T2 permit portal for vendors. No hunting for which app or website handles parking.
Emergency — always visible, no login
One-tap call to PVAMU PD with GPS location. Always at the bottom of every visitor screen. Family members have the same safety access as students.
Every feature — fully explained
Nothing buried. Every feature has a real purpose.
Click any feature card to read what it does, why it exists, and exactly how it works for the people who use it every day.
Panther Watch — silent GPS safety
One tap activates silent GPS sharing to PVAMU PD and the student's emergency contacts. No call, no speaking, no visible action that could draw attention from someone nearby. The officer dispatch screen shows a live dot labeled with the student's first name and intended destination.
Why it matters
Walking alone at night carries real risk. Current PVAMU safety requires finding a number, making a call, and speaking — all while potentially being followed. Panther Watch removes every one of those steps. It is not a panic button. It is a quiet, constant presence.
2-minute check-in nudges — student taps "I'm okay" to continue
Student arrives at destination → auto-closes silently. Officer never notified.
Miss 1 check-in, GPS still moving → no alert. App keeps watching.
Miss 2 check-ins + GPS stopped unexpectedly → officer gets one GPS pin. This is the only scenario that fires an alert. This logic eliminates ~80% of false alerts.
Panther Buddy — gender-preference walk matching
Students set a walk preference once in their profile — Women only, Men only, or Anyone — and never have to explain it. When they activate Panther Watch, the app shows students heading the same direction who match their preference. Both see each other's first name and destination only — no last name, no room number, no personal details.
Why the gender preference matters
A woman walking home at night is not going to feel safer being matched with a stranger who is a man. That is not an opinion — it is a real safety consideration. The preference is a private setting. It protects students while giving everyone the option to walk with someone they actually trust. Set once, never asked again.
Match priority: contacts in your phone → same dorm → preference match
One-tap cancel at any time — Panther Watch continues automatically
"You good?" — the complete support system
Always visible. One tap, four tiles. Nothing is logged about who opened this screen. Everything is completely private.
Why "You good?" and not "Need support?"
On an HBCU campus where students carry the weight of representing their community and their family, "need support" can feel heavy and formal. "You good?" is what one Panther asks another when they notice something is off. It normalizes checking in with yourself and asking for help.
Talk: Counseling Center hours · Panther Peer Support (open evenings/weekends) · 988 Lifeline · Crisis Text Line (text HOME to 741741)
Food: Panther Food Pantry — hours, location, real-time availability. No ID. No form. No questions.
Money: Emergency Student Aid Fund in-app form · Financial Aid office · Textbook lending at Coleman Library
Something else: AI reads what the student types and surfaces the right resource. Roommate conflict → Residential Life. Failing class → tutoring + office hours. Lonely → Peer Support + events near you. Broke → emergency aid. No dead ends.
Panther Peer Support — student listeners after hours
Trained student volunteers available through PantherConnect during evenings and weekends — exactly when the counseling center is closed and students are most likely to need someone to talk to. This program does not currently exist at PVAMU. It is pitched alongside the app as a new campus initiative.
Why it fills a critical gap
The highest-risk hours for a student in crisis are Friday and Saturday nights — when every institutional resource has gone home. Peer support is evidence-based, costs almost nothing to run, and fills the gap that 988 and the counseling center cannot because of business hours.
Volunteers trained by the PVAMU Counseling Center — not just good listeners, properly prepared
In-app chat — no phone call, no awkward voice conversation required
Supervised by counseling staff who can escalate when necessary
Shows as "Open now" in the Talk tile during its evening and weekend hours
Academic hub — Schedule tab
Pulls from PantherTracks via SSO — same data pipeline as Navigate 360. Students never type their courses manually. The schedule auto-updates when they add or drop a class. Three critical alerts appear as banners that cannot be missed: holds that could block registration, a 14-day registration countdown, and an exam countdown across every class.
What this adds that Navigate 360 does not
Every class card has one-tap directions opening Google Maps or Apple Maps. A professor contact card with office hours, location, and one-tap email. A Canvas deep link. A GroupMe class chat link the student adds once — every classmate finds it from the same card. Attendance tracker with a drop warning when one absence remains before the professor's limit.
Holds surface the day they appear — not at registration when it's too late to fix
Google Maps or Apple Maps — student picks once, app remembers forever
Exam countdown shows every final across all classes in one strip
Academic hub — Progress tab with grade check-in
Visual progress bars for every degree requirement — core major, math and science, general ed, electives, capstone. GPA history by semester. Projected graduation date that auto-updates as credits are completed. The grade check-in asks three times per semester (weeks 4, 8, and 14) how the student is feeling in each class — Good, Okay, or Struggling. Not their grade. Their gut.
Why feelings catch problems earlier than grades
A student with a B who feels completely lost is at more risk than a student with a C who knows exactly what to do next. Feelings surface weeks before grades do. When a student marks Struggling, PantherConnect immediately surfaces the tutoring schedule for that class, professor office hours, and a one-tap advisor booking link — before the grade has a chance to fall.
Professors see only aggregate percentages — never individual student names
Projected graduation date updates automatically when credits change
Academic Affairs receives early-alert data for campus-wide retention programs
Academic hub — Advisor booking (3 taps)
Your assigned advisors are pre-loaded — no searching. Tap the advisor. Select a topic — Course planning, Degree audit, Graduation check, Grade concern, Career guidance. Pick a date and time slot. Confirm. Appointment locked immediately. 30-minute reminder fires automatically the morning of the meeting.
The topic pre-selection changes the entire meeting
Every advising meeting currently starts with two minutes of the advisor asking what the student needs and pulling up the right screen. When the topic is pre-selected, the advisor walks in already prepared. A 20-minute meeting that used to feel rushed now actually reaches a conclusion. Students leave with answers, not more questions.
Availability badge shows who has open slots this week before you even tap
Taken slots clearly grayed — no confusion about what is available
One-tap directions to their office appear after confirmation
Personalized events + org leader admin posting
Students follow orgs — NSBE, Alpha Kappa Alpha, Gospel Choir, SGA, Pre-Law Society, any registered PVAMU org. Events feed shows only what they signed up for. Org leaders get a separate admin view (toggle on the Events screen) with a simple posting form: event name, date, time, location, category, and audience level.
Why personalization matters at an HBCU
PVAMU has a rich org culture — Greek life, SWAC athletics, ROTC, academic societies, cultural organizations. When everything competes for the same notification, nobody reads any of it. Personalization means NSBE members hear about NSBE. The Gospel Choir audience actually shows up because they chose to follow the choir — not because they got a campus-wide blast they ignored.
Three audience levels: Members only, Members + interested followers, All students
Campus-wide events enter a Student Affairs approval queue before going live
Filters: All, Greek life, Sports, Free food, Academic
Save event, set reminder, get directions, RSVP — all from the event card
Yard Eats — community food sharing
Someone is always grilling or has event leftovers. Yard Eats makes it findable. Two paths — org official posts require no waiver because the org's campus agreement covers them. Personal posts require a full responsibility waiver checked every single time before the post button unlocks. Both auto-expire when their timer runs out — no ghost listings.
Why the waiver system protects everyone
A student grilling out back of their dorm is not a catering service. The waiver creates a clear record that the student accepted personal responsibility. PVAMU is not liable. The student is not surprised. And the community still gets to share food the way it always has — just now it is organized, searchable, and accountable.
Org posts: timer up to 2 hours · verified badge · no waiver required
Personal posts: waiver required every time · 30-min timer · one 30-min extension
Personal posts show a location description, NOT a live GPS pin — protects the student
Auto-expires at zero — no ghost listings of food already gone
Report button on every post → Student Affairs moderator review
Safety system
Three tiers. Every scenario. Every hour of the night.
The app knows the difference between a student who needs to call 911 and one who needs silent GPS monitoring on the walk home. Click each tier to expand the scenarios.
Tier 1 — Call an officer immediately
Do not use the app. Call PVAMU PD or 911.
Fight actively happening
Unconscious, not breathing
Weapon visible, serious threat
Fire, gas smell, explosion
Tier 2 — Use the app silently
One tap. GPS to PD. Nobody nearby can tell.
Think someone is following you
Walking alone at night
Gut feeling is off
Alone in garage or stairwell
Tier 3 — Quick anonymous report
Logged with GPS. Officer routed when near area.
Noise complaint, loud party
Suspicious vehicle
Door propped open at night
Vandalism, graffiti
Smart check-in logic — officers only hear something when it is real
Student reaches destination → auto-closes silently. No officer alert.
Miss 1 check-in, GPS still moving → no alert. App keeps watching quietly.
Miss 2 check-ins + GPS stopped unexpectedly → one GPS pin to officer. This is the only scenario that fires an alert. Eliminates ~80% of false alerts.
Community features
Built for HBCU culture — not just campus logistics
Yard Eats and the events system are not features. They are how the Panther community already operates — the grills on the yard, the org meetings, the step shows. PantherConnect makes it all findable in one place.

Student Affairs approval queue
Any event targeting all students enters a review queue before going live. Staff see it, approve in one tap, and it publishes immediately. No email chains — just a clean workflow that keeps the feed trustworthy.
Build roadmap
Six phases — built to launch, not to wait
Phases 1 and 2 require zero PVAMU IT cooperation. We build what gives students real value first, then let traction open every door that requires university sign-off.
1
Safety core — the reason students download it
High · Most critical
Panther Watch, SOS button, Panther Buddy with gender-preference matching, anonymous tip reporting. These give students real value on day one and get PVAMU PD bought in immediately.

Deep links — fastest value, minimal dev time
Low effort · Quick win

Navigate 360 replacement — the reason students delete it
High effort · High impact
Class schedule, advisor booking in 3 taps, holds alerts, degree progress with projected graduation date, grade check-in, exam countdown, registration countdown. Once live, Navigate 360 gets deleted. We keep Navigate 360 only for counseling booking.

Community and culture — what makes this feel like PVAMU
Medium effort
Org-personalized events, Yard Eats with both posting paths, "You good?" with Panther Peer Support, org leader admin posting, Student Affairs approval queue. These are the features that make PantherConnect feel like it was built by someone who actually goes here — because it was.
